No matter what day of the week, every night is party night in Puerto Escondido – you’ve just gotta be clued up on where to go. Oh, and just a heads up, in Puerto, there are two choices of music: reggaeton or techno.

The two main areas you need to focus on are Zicatela and La Punta. La Punta is more where the pre-party begins, as bars are open early and forced to shut before midnight because of licensing laws. So after this, everyone heads to Zicatela, where clubs are open until 5 am.

So without further ado, here’s a day-by-day guide on where to party in Puerto Escondido:

Monday | The Boneyard and Cactus

Catch the sunset at Savanna on La Punta Beach; between 6 and 8, it offers 2-for-1 cocktails. Then, head to The Boneyard (a big skating bowl with a bar and pizza) for live music.

Once everything quietens in La Punta, catch a taxi over to Cactus for Cactus Monday. On Mondays, they play Electronic House.

Tuesday | Chula

Bonita Escondida, the infamous party hostel in La Punta, host a trivia night every Tuesday that gets pretty rowdy. After 11pm, Chula is my favourite place to go out in Puerto. It’s right on the beach, so you can dance in the sand and it always has sick DJs. It’s free entry before 12am but MXN 150 + a drink after. So it’s worth heading down around 11.45 if you want to save some dolla.

Wednesday | Salsa at Congo

It’s a known fact that Wednesday night is salsa night in Puerto Escondido. Congo is definitely not a vibe unless it’s Wednesday, so be sure to only go on this day. Everyone leaves a sweaty mess as it gets HOT in there with everyone dancing to reggaeton. But it’s hella worth it and definitely the place to be on Wednesday in Puerto.

Most people go there for 11pm (expect to wait in a huuge queue down the street) but if you want to take some salsa lessons and avoid the queing, aim for 8pm. There’s also a live band around 9/10pm so be sure not to miss this. Entry has increased in the last years from MXN50 to MXN150. Inflation eh.

Thursday | Open Mic at Punta Origen

Watch the sunset at Palapita bar on Zicatela beach for MXN 20 refill pina coladas and volleyball. Then head to Punta Origen for its open mic night, which draws in insanely good talent. If you still wanna party, then Chula normally has a DJ set on.

Friday / Saturday | Zicatela

There are so many options on Fridays and Saturdays. Just keep a look out for club posters plastered across walls. If you’ve already been to Cactus and Chula during the week, try Mar & Wana or Piedra de la Iguana for techno and Xcaanda for reggaeton. Entry to most clubs on Zicatela will be around MXN150 entry on the weekend.

Sunday | BBQ at Punta Vida

Punta Vida in La Punta really is the place to be on Sundays. If you fancy your hand at volleyball, be sure to head there late afternoon. The BBQ and music really get going around 7.30/8 pm. It’s MXN 150 for a beer and BBQ plate. The food is really delish.

So there you have it, a quick little guide on where to party when you’re in Puerto Escondido.

On a budget? Well, one of my favourite things to do was also grab some beers and watch the sunset. Where’s Puerto’s best sunset spot I hear you ask? I’ve got you, check out: Best Sunset Spots in Puerto Escondido.
